Causes of Global Warming

Global Warming Causes

Carbon dioxide is the by product of fuel such as gasoline, diesel, kerosene and etc. It derives from many sources around the globe. Combination of Carbon dioxide and water create a so called greenhouse gas. It forms on the higher atmosphere where in the clouds form and definitely creates global warming in the entire planet.

Here are some possible causes of global warming:

  • The emissions of Carbon Dioxide from Power Plants – in U.S. almost 40% of carbon dioxide and 93 % of coal emissions come from burning of fossil fuels to generate electricity. Coal emits more or less 2 times than the carbon when burned .It produces natural gas that emits 50% carbon dioxide.
  • Carbon Dioxide gives off from vehicles - vehicles are another contributor to global warming. In U.S. alone 33% of carbon dioxide emission comes from cars, minivan, jeeps and other utility vehicles. It was found out that a car that gets 12 miles per gallon of fuel will emit more or less 800 pounds of carbon dioxide within 500 miles of travel within the city. So therefore in every gallon of fuel consumed by every vehicle, 19.6 pounds of carbon dioxide was added into the atmosphere.
  • Carbon Dioxide from Airplanes and other aircraft- airplanes and other aircraft contribute 3.5 % of global warming and has a tendency to rise up to 15% in the near future according to UN intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change.
  • Carbon Dioxide from Building- construction of buildings and building structures emits more or less 12% carbon dioxide.
    • Methane - second to carbon dioxide, methane is another component of greenhouse gas. It is 20 times or even higher affectivity in trapping heat. It gain increase in its atmospheric levels of about 145% in the last century. The sources of methane are rice paddies, fossil fuel production, bovine flatulence & bacteria in bogs. Rice commonly planted and grown in flooded fields. In this situation, organic matter in the soil will decompose and CH4 will contaminate the air through the rice plants.
  • Increase of Water vapor - water vapor definitely is the most prevailing gas in the atmosphere. It enhances warming caused by carbon dioxide, methane and many other gases. Two thirds of the heat blocked by greenhouse gases was hold by water vapor and will cause more warming around the globe. More clouds formation will takes place due to this scenario and the heat will turn back out into space.
  • Nitrous oxide as one of the greenhouse gases - this kind of gas is usually came from rainforest and oceans. It is called as “laughing gas” which is sometimes used as anesthetics. Colorless and non –flammable gas nitrous oxide was spread out into the atmosphere by chemical reactions which probably involve sunlight.
  • Deforestation - cutting and burning tress, in short destroying rain forest can create a bulk of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Deforestation according to NASA Web Site is the source of 20-25% carbon emission to the atmosphere. The presence of rainforest could absorb 2 billion tons of carbon every year and because the earth is losing millions of acres tress in the forest hence the carbon will directly spread over the atmosphere.
  • City Gridlock – traffic in the city is one factor that causes global warming. Study shows that drivers in Los Angeles and New York City only loss 600 million gallons of gas every year just because of traffic. These 600 million gallons will turn out to be 7.5 million tons of carbon dioxide in two cities mentioned only.
  • Carbon in Atmosphere and Ocean – According to Research Information Office 750 billion tons of carbon is present in the atmosphere and 1020 billion tons are dissolved by the surface layer of water such as deep ocean likewise forest and soils which dissolve 610 billion and 1580 billion tons of carbon respectively.
  • Permafrost - is a frozen soil with 2,200 feet depths particularly in arctic and subarctic regions. Northern Hemisphere is 25 % permafrost which has 32 degrees Fahrenheit within two years. There are hard permafrost that was built with buildings and houses particularly in Alaska land surface, Canada, Scandinavia and Siberia. The rising of temperatures will bring danger and destruction to buildings, electric generating station, pipeline and others. Furthermore due to instability of the ground erosion, affect terrain, slopes, roads and foundations would likely damage.
  • Tundra – is a called a “biome” which is describes as a region of different vegetation. Animals and microorganism live vigorously in unique kind of climate. According to research 50 billion tons of carbon is frozen in tundra and turn out to be a source of carbon dioxide today. University of California biologist “Walter Oechel,” conducted studies on tundra’s carbon dioxide emissions who will assumed by majority as a carbon sink but it was found out in this study that it turn out to be a net emitter of carbon dioxide. Latest study says that tundra is now dry and the historic carbon sink is no longer present in site.
